TERRIER DERBY – FAQ’s and Important Information
When is it held – Sunday September 19th 2021
Where is it held? – Just by the 2 furlong marker of the racecourse
What time does it start? – Registration is from 12.00 1st Race is at 1.00pm
How much is it to enter? – Entry is £2 per dog (all proceeds to the Royal Marsden) How many dogs in each race? – 4 dogs per race
How many races – there are up to 16 heats, 4 quarter finals, 2 semi’s and the final.
Is it only for Terriers? – No, it is open to any dog up to 15” at the shoulder.
Are there any other events? – Yes there is the fun dog show as well as stalls and food What time does it finish – Usually around 3.45pm
1) The winner is the first to cross the white line, in the event of a dead heat or very close finish then it is the first dog though the hole in the finishing “wall”. The judges decision is final.
2) All terriers must wear a coloured collar which corresponds to their coloured chip collected from
the registration tent. Please return coloured collars and chips to the registration tent straight after the race.
3) All terriers must go in the traps in order to qualify for the later stages
4) Dogs racing from outside the traps will not be eligible for the next round, hence the maximum
height of 15” at the shoulder to ensure they can fit in the traps.
Each terrier has a coloured collar to wear for the race plus a matching coloured chip with the number of the race. Please return the collar and chip to the registration tent as soon as your race has
finished. If your dog is the winner of the race then their chip must be returned to the registration tent to ensure progress to the next round (a steward will assist in this).
PROGRAMME – All times approximate
12.00 – 1.00pm, Registration, Practice Races and Fun Races
1.00pm until 2.15pm HEATS x 16 heats – The winner from each race goes through to the final Winners rosettes for each heat
Approx. 2.30 – 2.45pm Quarter Finals – The Winner and second go forward to the semi -finals Winners rosettes for quarter finalists
2.45 – 3.15pm Best turned out fun dog show – winners receive his and hers doggy fascinators 3.00pm SEMI FINALS There are winners rosettes for semi finalists
RAFFLE DRAW – All proceeds to Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
3.30pm FINAL Rosettes for all 4 finalists
Presentation of best turned out / hat prizes – his and hers Presentation of winners (Smudge) cup
Please take care with your dog and keep them on a lead at all times unless participating in a race. Any dogs showing aggressive behaviour towards people or other dog will be excluded.
We have poo bags available so if your terrier has an accident please clean up this sacred turf and place
in the bin provided. Poo bags kindly sponsored by The Rat (The Bell) Walton On The Hill). Toilet facilities for humans are available just across the road.
